Request Programs

The Saturday Evening Request Program has been a tradition here at The Classical Station going back to the times when we played vinyl. Hosts like Frosty Clark and Joe Purcell made Saturday evenings a very special time here at The Classical Station. In those days, we got most of your requests via telephone. Now, 98% of your requests come in online via the website or the app. That works very well because we can see when we need more requests to fill up Allegro or As You Like It. 10 or 20 years ago we crossed our fingers and hoped that enough requests would come in. Amazingly, they always did! The other trend which is so heart-warming to all of us here at The Classical Station is the number of requests that come from listeners living in other parts of the country and abroad.

All Request Friday was the last Friday of the month for many years. Because that program became so popular, we decided to make every Friday an All Request Friday. Initially, we thought that we would come up short of pieces. That didn’t happen. We are typically oversubscribed for the 13 hours we have to fill on a Friday

Your requests run the gamut too. We get requests for the familiar staples of the classical music repertoire such as Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture and Pachelbel’s Canon in D. But we also receive requests for us to play dozens of less familiar but very beautiful works every week, such as a Tyberg symphony or an aria from a Handel opera. Your tastes are wide-ranging.

Word of mouth is always our best advertising. So, please let your family and friends know that they can ask us to play their favorite piece of classical music on the Saturday Evening Request Program or on All Request Friday.

  • All-Request Friday airs every Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. Eastern
  • The Saturday Evening Request Program airs every Saturday from 6:00 p.m. until midnight Eastern. Haydn Jones is your genial host.

We may not be able to play your request because we may not have the rights and broadcast permissions to do so. If we don’t have the piece in our library, we will substitute a similar work by the same composer.

Because our request programs are very popular and fill up quickly, we encourage you to submit your requests as soon as possible.
